If you have a business account on Pinterest, it is important that you confirm your website (or blog) on your Pinterest account. But before I show you how to do that, you might want to know why you should do that! When you confirm your website:
- You get access to Pinterest analytics. Yay!! (Note: It may take up to 48 hours for your website data to show up in your Pinterest analytics.)
- Pinterest will display your profile picture on Pins that people saved from your website. This increases your visibility and credibility. (Win-Win!)
How to Confirm your Website or Blog on Pinterest
Note: The following instructions will work for most websites and blogs, including self-hosted WordPress blogs. However, if you have a Blogger blog, please follow the instructions in the “How to Confirm your Blogger Blog on Pinterest” section below.
- Login to your Pinterest account.
- Click the “Edit Profile” button at the top.
- At the bottom of the window that appears, enter your website address and click the “Confirm website” button.
- Click “Download this file” and save the HTML file to your computer. (Note: Do not rename this file!)
- Keep your browser window open – as we will be returning to this window after the following step.
- Use FTP (or the File Manager in your web hosting account’s control panel) to upload the HTML file to your website. You want to upload the file to the root of your website (not to a sub-folder). Usually this is the “public_html” directory; but in some cases it might be named “www” or “wwwroot”. If you’re unsure, just ask your web hosting provider.
- Now go back to your browser window and click the “Finish” button. Pinterest will automatically check your website for that file.
- You should now see “Site confirmed” next to your website address. Click the “Save” button and you’re all set! (Read additional notes below.)
How to Confirm your Blogger Blog on Pinterest
The steps for confirming a Blogger blog are different than for other websites.
NOTE: This requires editing your Blogger template. Before proceeding with the instructions below, I recommend that you backup your Blogger template first!
- Login to your Pinterest account.
- Click the “Edit Profile” button at the top.
- At the bottom of the window that appears, enter your website address and click the “Confirm website” button.
- Copy the code that appears in the box (the meta tag):
- Open a separate browser window and login to your Blogger Dashboard.
- Click on Template and then Edit HTML.
- Look through your blog’s HTML code for the <head> section. (It will be near the top of your code.)
- Create a new line below the <head> line. And paste in the code you copied from Pinterest. Make sure you add the Pinterest code before the <body> section of your template.
- Click the “Save Template” button.
- Click the “Close” button.
- Now go back to your browser window and click the “Finish” button. Pinterest will automatically check your website for that file.
- You should now see “Site confirmed” next to your website address. Click the “Save” button and you’re all set!
Notes about Confirming your Website on Pinterest:
- After you have confirmed your website or blog on your Pinterest account, you can remove the file (or the meta tag) from your website if you want to.
- You can only confirm your website on one Pinterest account. (If you have multiple Pinterest accounts, you can always remove the website from one Pinterest account and then add/confirm it on your other Pinterest account.)
- You can only have one website on your Pinterest profile.
Thanks for sharing this info! My site is now confirmed but how do I access the pin analytics?
Hi Tanya,
Login to your Pinterest account – and then you should see a red menu link that says “Analytics” in the top left corner (to the left of the Search bar).
I don’t see that? Do I have to have a special account to be able to see this? Also, I just uploaded my new Favicon. Thank you for the help with that.
Actually, I see how to make it a business account..this is my personal pinterest and I have a specific board related to my blog so maybe I shouldn’t make this a business account.
To get access to Pinterest Analtyics, you need to have a business account.
Hello, I tried doing this and it still will not work when I click ”finish” on Pinterest. I uploaded it to the correct place
Are you getting an error? Also, which instructions are you following (the code for Blogger blogs or the code for other websites/blogs)?
Hello. Thank you for these excellent info you share. Your posts have helped my blog a great deal. Thank you.
I just followed these steps and I am receiving an error that says “We’re still working on confirming your site. Sit tight, it may take up to an hour.” I have been receiving this message for over 48 hours now. I am putting the code in the right spot (below the ) and I am using the blogger steps.
That sounds like it could be a temporary issue that Pinterest was having. Are you still getting that same error message? If so, you’ll want to go through my instructions here and make sure you’re following them exactly. If you’re still having issues, I’d have to take a look at how you have everything setup in order to troubleshoot this for you further.
Hi. I’m curious to know if you resolved this as I have had this error message for a long time and can’t seem to fix it.
